Instrument cluster stuck !

Hi
I asked a mechanic/electrician a few weeks ago to pull it out and check for blown bulbs. It was a mistake which im paying dearly for now as i really wish i had just taken the job on myself. Not only did he manage to disconnect the instrument lights, but he managed to bugger up the low fuel warning light.

But he has also messed something else up and i would appreciate anyone's input if they have experience in removigng this instrument panel.

I prefer not to drive the car at night at the moment so im keen to get it off and change bulbs and test the contacts etc. But the mechanic has managed to push it back wrongly and not taken care with cables.

I can only pull it out about 3cm before it stops moving. It's like there is something really strong holding it on. What could that be? the speedo cable which is jammed somewhere?

if it is the speedo cable, then perhaps all it needs is a push from behind to allow the clock to move forward about 10cm. Any advice on how to do that? Can i see it from the firewall side easily?

thanks for your input and suggestions as always.

MJ, do yourself, and others, a favor and post your model in your posts. It helps when you ask your questions. Unless one has been following your postings then they won't know if you have a W123, W126, etc.

Terribly sorry. I thought i had all that in my profile. It's a 300 SDL or rather that's what one VIN site says it is as now i have a 603 engine in it.
I worked out how to pull it out simply by removing the speedo cable from behind although i was shocked by how hard that was.

thanks for your patience

Cable clamp must be removed to let the speedo come out further its in the foot well . And mind you replace the bulbe in to the right holes in the back og the speedo,,, take a picture before you pull them out ;.
