1996 E320 Wont Start

I have replaced the fuel pump and the crank sensor and the car has plenty of gas. It has 198k miles but still wont crank over. I put the key it, the engine turns and turns and turns and just wont kick over. I am unsure what to do next. Can someone please help me.

Fuel pump and crank sensor aren't cheap - what led you to believe they needed replacing? Did you check for spark?

If the gas comes at the motor with suitable pressure i would check for injector activity because it is easier than checking spark. If there is none i'd smack the K40 relay around a bit.

I have no idea where the K40 relay is... And How would I test the injectors.

stevebfl 09-21-2008 05:30 PM

I suppose current ramping is out, maybe audibly.

Where is the relay switch?

Where is the K40 relay switch on this car?

Isn't it near the ECU?

Yes both are in the electrical center, right rear of eng compartment.

Did you have any luck with this, as I have a similar problem with my 1997 e320?

Mike Freeman 09-24-2008 01:33 PM

Cranks , Won't start

Try a little shot of gasoline or starting fluid i the intake(less than a teasoon) if it still won't fire it's an ignition related problem if it fires and dies it's a fuel related problem.

I messed and messed with it... To much snow to full with it now. I sent it to a local Chevy dealer (has a MB tech on hand). He ran some test and told me he is sending a list to me in the mail... Im sorta scared since he is mailing a LIST! I will let you guys know tomorrow what he fount... $120 fees and a $52 tow fee... not cheap.

Scan engline controls found invalid transponder
signal endgine control module sut down due to security problem
Infared sensor on drivers door needs replaced.

He said I would have to take it to the MB dealer to have the program transponder and part installed.

Can someone please help!!! I have spent way to much money for such a smiply problem!!!

Anyone???

:(ANYONE???? I really would like to do this myself to avoid spending more money on the car.

What you need is someone who knows what they are doing. The door receiver has nothing to do with running. The drive authorization comes from the chip in the key being recognized by the ring around the ignition switch.
