99 slk 230 buy or not buy

i am thinking of buying of a 99 slk 230 with 60000 miles very clean exterior and interior. hardtop convertible seems to operate smoothly. the valve cover where the silver paint and the red kompressor markings has paint bubbles and i don't know if this is normal for this engine or not. the seller says they are normal. are there any unique problems for this car that i should look out for?

Having an pre-purchase inspection before spending your $$$$ is wise.

Cosmetic issues like the valve cover paint are common.

I have a 2001 SLK230 that I purchased new. Yes, the paint bubbling on the valve cover and and the red Kompressor markings are normal. It bummed me out when it happened, especially since I keep it wiped cleaned and waxed. Hey, I got over it. I plan on removing and re-painting them in the near future.
You didn't mention how much for the '99, but I bet you could find a 2001 with less mileage for about the same money.

I agree with the pre-inspection...money well spent.

Good luck,

Dave

the asking price for the 99 slk 230 is $11,200.00. Fair price?

size matters

Unless you are buying it for a woman or are less that 5'5" then make sure the car fits you. I'm not a big guy (5'11-175) and I bang my head in those damned things often. They are fun and sporty but they are built for a small physique and are what I would consider a chick-mobile. It would be a big downer to buy the car and regret it after you realize you are too big to be comfortable in it.
