560 SEL Engine Miss....Cured!
 

Well after months of checking and rechecking for appropriate spark. Dumping in bottles of fuel injector cleaner, and alot of cussing over why my engine miss would not dissappear.....I finally got this car running properly.

The problem was a faulty/dirty fuel distributor. I attempted to overhaul/calibrate my old unit several times, but I finally gave up. (Not to mention I began to get a pretty good high from the gas fumes). Fortunately on my way home from the office I drove by a small shop with alot of MB's parked outside so I popped in and asked if they would happen to have a used fuel distributor for sale.....to my amazement he had ten of them. So $290 (Can) later my benz is purring.

Now I can finally enjoy it for awhile.....Thanks to all for your help!

Why the heck won't you tellus where your at and who fixed your problem. This shop may be helpful to Benz fanatics in your area.

Indeed. Here I am in Canada with a 560SEL that needs a fuel distributor. Can you tell me where you got yours?

Good info, thanks! I would have been pulling my hair out, checking plugs, wires, and distributor -- but it either had to be electrical or fuel related.

I had the same problem on my 560sel, but I solved the problem a little differently. My fuel distributor acted up every couple of weeks. Each time, we took the filter screens out of each line to the injectors and cleaned them. The car worked good for a while - then - rough idle again. Problem was rusty fuel lines - so bad that when we took them out, the weight of them broke the fuel line in two where it bends up to the firewall on the drivers side. Replacing the lines and cleaning the filter screens solved the problem. (3 months and counting) Hope this helps someone else. The fuel lines were cheap - replacing them was a pain!!

Oh forgot to mention....
 

Forgot to mention - the fuel filter is in the BACK of the car by the fuel pumps and does not stop this rust from getting to the distributor since the lines are AFTER the filter.
