Hit curb :( alignment screwed
 

Well, so the other night I ran up a curb while I was turning. Was distracted and didn't turn the wheel quite enough so it hit. Car is a beautiful 1994 E420. The passenger-side wheels made contact with the curb but the body of the car is untouched.

Problem now is... my passenger front wheel is out of alignment (and possibly the rear passenger as well). I fixed some of the wobble by changing the wheel hub/knuckle. Also the center link and tie rods were replaced.

As of now, I noticed that when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left (driver side) the inside of the wheel is making contact with the springs.

Just wondering if anyone might know what part of the undercarriage may cause or affect the gap between the wheel and spring. I have also adjusted the tie rod to create a gap, but I know that this is not the problem. Something else is bent or out of spec.

If you have "wobble" as you say then that is a bent rim and/or a damaged tire. If you have low profile tires then that is likely. It is easily diagnosed: Jack up that tire and spin it by hand. You will see if there is any wobble anywhere.

Likely the spindle or lower control arm.

yea the wheels are bent and I am ordering new ones soon, but I know theres a problem with the wheel hitting the spring regardless of the bent wheels

Get ready to buy a lower control arm, search my ID as I did the job on my W124. Wasn't too expensive either.

I'm not very familiar with MB, but we did something similar in a dodge pickup. It toasted the lower control arm, upper control arm, shock mount, and pushed the k-frame(crossmember) back about 4 inches.

The right front tire was rubbing against the inner fender when turned all the way right and catching part of the frame in the inside.

You're best bet would be to get it up on a rack and check it out for any collateral damage. I don't know how hard you hit the curb, but it may have done more damage that you expect.

No upper control arm on a W124, and believe me the spindle is quite stout. The "soft" part that would give way is the lower control arm.

I am going to replace the lower control arm and see what it does.

The arms on the W124 are definitely pretty strong. I hit the curb, and just drove the car home. Except for the fact that the steering wheel was pulling to the right, the car got me home safe.
