M104 serpentine belt replacement
RE: my 1995 E320... The WIS says to loosen the tensioner screw which is beside the p/s reservoir etc. My model 104 engine doesn't have any adjusting screw nor pointer etc. of any kind. How do you remove the belt? Where do you slacken the tension? The WIS sketch clearly shows the device between the p/s reservoir and water pump.

You've probably got a new style tensioner as I do on my '95 wagon. The tensioner is just spring loaded; you just put a wrench on the front of it (I think 15mm), pull and hold while slipping off the belt.

Great! I just figured it out, you're right. I guess MB finally improved the belt tensioners over the M103 engine ones they were using...

That was a 104 eng. production change and was in late '95. Any engine after serial # 12-672236 had the new tensioner modification. All earlier Serial numbered 104/HFM engines [ 93-95] had the pointer/shock set-up.
