Weird sound when I make a left turn
When I make a left turn at semi slow speeds, I get this sound that sounds like rubbing but I don't think it is. Everything is ok when I make right turns. I was wondering if it could be my steering or something. Any help would be grateful.
Thx. |
Check your front brake backing plates...sometimes they rub when you turn one way or another, even though there's clearance when you go straight.
Just went thru this on 2 of my cars-pretty common. |
Do you have to replace them?
What would they rub up against? |
The backing plates are fabricated of sheet metal, so simply bend it away from the rotor without distorting it too badly.
What they rub up against is the rotor itself. |
I recently had a simlar issue and the backing plate was involved. When making a sharp left turn at low speeds, I had a distinct metal tone sound coming form the right front.
My Mech thought it might be something simple, and so he suggested I take off the wheel and check it. Well after I took off the wheel, I found the backing plate had been rubbing when the wheel was fully turned to the left. I gave it a slight bend away from where it was rubbing, and the noise has not reappeared since. Alon |
Another suggestion ....
Have you had a front wheel balanced lately?
If you did, it could be the balance studs at the back of the front left wheel rubbing against the rods. |
I had a similar symptom, it was a wheel bearing needing tightening.

I'll check the plate and get the whel bearings tightened.
I use stick on weights so that's not the cause of the problem. |
