Question MODs for 1982 300D Turbo

Hey folks, just joined the forum...I love my mercedes to death, it went a good 250,000 miles before an oil pump failed and the engine seized (needless to say i was pissed), but i've decided to keep my "silver bullet" (i swear it does 0-60 in like 3 and a half minutes), i'm gonna drop a new diesel engine in it pretty soon, and i was hopping maybe to add a little bit more power, maybe a new turbo charger/intercooler...anyone have any thoughts, resources, experiance, ideas they could throw out there for me? thanx for any help...i love that car (my g/f get's jealous sometimes, but i would love for it to have a little bit more umpf)

Can you give us some detail on the oil pump seizing? Was there any warning? What kind of condition was the oil pump chain in? Had the oil been changed regularly? What actually failed in the oil pump?

Best way to make it faster is to put a small block Chevy engine in it.

as to what exactly happend i am unsure, my mechanic simply told me the oil pump stopped sending oil to the engine, which in turn completely seized the crankshaft. As far as warning i had about 30 seconds of warning when i saw the oil gauge goto zero, and the car started making a very loud sound, and there was a loss of power, but alas i was in traffice and was unable to pull over in time...i was in a tunnel. By small block chevy enigne, that would still be a diesel correct?

A small block Chevy engine is a small V8 Chevolet engine - usually around 350 cuin hooked up to a Chevolet transmission. Thanks for the reply on the oil pump.

ok, i think i get were your going with that...i'd like to stay stock mercedes, and then add some mods to boost performance, but i'm certainly open to other ideas. how much work would putting a chevy engine involve? does that mean i gotta convert the car over to gas? how much is all the parts gonna cost, engine/trannie, do i need a special shop to take it to? i know there are advantages to having a chevy engine (reliable, easy to find parts for)have you heard of other ppl doing this to their benz? basically what it comes down to is...there's no way i could do this on my own, so what is it going to mean i gotta do for someone else to do it?

Diesel engines power is determined by the amount of fuel injected into the cylinders. Increasing performance on a diesel is not something you do by swapping a few parts like we do on gas engines. If you want one of these cars with more power, I would suggest that you go find a nice gas engine example.

Have a great day,
