Hood pad...whats wrong?
Recently I purchesed (from Phil here) a new hood pad for my W107. The old one was removed 2 years ago, and all traces of the leftover pieces.
Cleaned with lacquer thinner and used a 3M #77 spray adhesive. Worked fine for about a week. Then it came loose. Got a feeling the glue is the wrong type. What brand/type is recommended? Think I can use the pad over? Cliff |

Use 3M 08090 Super Trim Adhesive. You'll need 2 cans.
The 3M Super 77 isn't the appropriate adhesive for the hood pad.

I bought 2 cans this size and used 1/2 of the second can.
Make sure you get enough if the cans at Wal-Mart are smaller. http://www.amazon.com/3M-Super-Adhesive-Yellow-aerosol/dp/B0002ZQB92/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1223435196&sr=8-1

Even with the "good" 3M adhesive, it's absolutely critical to follow the instructions with contact cement, like: temperature, spray BOTH surfaces at the right distance AFTER shaking the can thoroughly, and WAIT the recommended time both to apply and to drive, the former being extremely important.
I hope you've been masking/covering the heck out of everything. This is VERY MESSY and very risky to remove from paint. P.S. Are you going to do the "rear" hood seal also? I must be one of the only people who do this one!

Was told the rear part of the hood is no longer available. Would like to do but don't want to buy a whole second pad to do so. Ideas?? |

I find this hard to believe. I see them on eBay (with MB part numbers). They are shaped differently than the hood pad, and just trimming a front hood pad to fit there would not work properly, if at all. Try the parts people that run this website.

What does this mean? Does the hood actually require 2 pieces of pad to cover it? Is this something unique to the 107? My 124 has a single pad to cover the entire hood surface, and only one part number in the epc.

Another vote for 3M 8090. Used it on my w126. Only needed 1 can though!

The 107 has a pad for the front of the hood up to the hood reinforcement/above the firewall, and another (which is described as a seal, but made out of the same stuff) behind that.
