valve tick !
 

I am the proud owner of a 1990 300E (214,000). I will refer to her as sadie. Sadie has been one of my best investments ..especially since I bought her from a Mercedes-Benz service tech. However she as of late has been trying to get my attention by clicking her valve(s) at me. I am running synthetic oil 20W/50 and also 1 quart Marvel mystery oil ! Sadie doesnt burn any that I am aware of !! Help please, how can I make her quieten down?

If it is the valves the noise is coming from, its most likely that your hydraulic lifters are worn out and don't hold the oil pressure. Makes 12 pieces for your car. They are not too difficult to replace and can be done by any Do-it-yourself'er.

I had a feeling that may be the problem ....as she usually quietens down when she warms-up!!
