380SL vacuum leak TROUBLESHOOTING...

Just got a new hand vac pump&gauge and want to troubleshoot an oscillating idle and would appreciate guidance from anyone successfully having dealt with this.

If there's a website or post that deals with this car's problem, please
let me know. I found one but it's for diesels and, being a novice, I need the particulars for this car.

If this is unavailable, a written narrative of the rudiments (assuming as little as possble)... would be a blessing for the entire group I assume.

If someone could outline the fundamentals and others join in to accumulate a sort of vacuum-wiki, a lot of posting redundancy could be avoided and efficiency enhanced, it seems to me.

If I've missed what I seek, pardon my dust and set me aright :-)

Thanks so much to all involved in this group,

Courtney

Having roamed around past group postings, I found a number of not direct but helpful suggestions.

However over a couple of days, I scrutinized the vac lines and found several under the hood that were seemingly loose, which I tie-wrapped securely. And finally found a couple that were seemingly disconnected which I connected.

Idle is better but still fluctuates a little when cold, though settles when warm, though is too high,... around 900 rpms.

Is 7/64" [ID] the proper size for the black vac lines ?

What are the much smaller [OD] translucent lines made of and who makes them ? These are the ones that are in direct contact with a hot engine, run all over the engine and presumably can withstand intense heat and plug in to various connectors, elbows, etc..

These small lines are some unknown (to me) plastic, but are very cheaply available from the dealer or from just about any MB parts house.
I got a couple of meters of the stuff from Fastlane a while back, for less than $10 if I remember correctly.
