94 E420 Stalls
I have a 94 E420 that stalls after warming up. I purchased an engine overload relay but I can't find where it goes? Help please.

Your car does not have an overload protection relay, which raises the question of how you would buy a part that does not exist. Next step should be to read the fault codes on the 38 pin diagnostic connector in the engine compartment. Try a search above.

94 E420 stalls
Problem is after the car has run approx 10-15 minutes, it begins to run rough, and idles rough. I replaced the fuel filter and it ran good for around 450 miles and stalled out. It wouldn't start for about 1 hour. after thoroughly cooling down, it starts. this is a continual thing. The part was ordered through autopartswarehouse.

If it's an E420 part it's not an OVP relay, if it's an OVP relay it's not an E420 part. Reading the codes is still your best bet to minimize guesswork.

Does your check engine light come on?
Do you have the pushbutton/LED function on your car? How does the insulation look on your wiring harness?

Check engine light doesn't light up. I am not sure about the push button.

There is a picture somewhere in these archives, that shows where the pushbutton is. It is basically infront of the box that contains all of the computer modules.
You might want to check your fuses ...roll them around a few times....could be that with a little thermal movement, one of them could make a bad contact, and cause stalling. (wouldn't that be nice, if that is all it was?) How are your caps and rotors? They like to get groady sooner than most caps and rotors.

try replacing the coolant temp sensor...only about $40....the single most important sensor on the car...good luck
|

My w124 had the same problem. I replaced the fuel pump relay and the problem went away

94 E420 stalls
I've replaced the engine temp sensor, and the fuel pump relay. The problem is still there. I have an error code of "6". I don't have any material to tell me what this error is. Where can I find a listing for error codes?

A code 6 on the pushbutton is telling you to read the codes on pin 7 of the 38 pin connector, which will require building the code reader if you have not already done so.

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but I am under the impression that the base code 6 pertains to the EA (electronic accelerator), which according to Jim, is pin 9.
Either way, building a code reader is a good idea.

Code 6 on the DM is "idle speed control faulty" which refers to the EA/CC/ISC socket on an ASR car or just CC/ISC on a non-ASR car. It's socket 7 on Jim's car too. Perhaps you're thinking of menu item 9.
