1993 E190 Gearbox Inquiry
Hi Folks
I came across your site and I am hoping someone can help. I own a 1993 E190 1800cc Mercedes Benz Now I absolutley love this car, but have two irretations about it Now like most older mercs I know, she does over heat if driving through a lot of trafffic, stop go traffic light stuff. But my biggest pain is the cars gearbox! As mentioned it has a 1800 motor with fuel injection, but has a terrible 4 speed manual gearbox with horrible ratios, giving terrible "performance" (I know she is not an AMG ) and even more terrible fuel consumption. What I would like to know is, is there another 5 or even 6 speed gearbox that I could have fitted to this vehicle? prefferably not automatic. here is a pic of her.... |

All of the USA versions were either 5 speed manual OR 4 speed automatics & had at least a 2.3 liter engine. I would think that a 5 speed would really help.
If you could find a donor car in a JUNK yard with a 5 speed first that would be good.

Thanks MB Doc
I have tried looking around for a transmission from a "donor" vehicle, but these cars are very scarse in my country. The few we did get were in a range of size, from 1800 to 3.2L and most i've seen have that terrible 4 gear setup Thanks anyway..... |
