Do I need a new motor?

Just came from my mechanic who was in the process of doing a ring and valve job on my 1970 280S. He found severe scarring in #3 cylinder and large ridge in #6.Also had blown headgasket. His suggestion was to try and put sleeves in the bad cylinders and then put oversized pistons in. Do any of you guys have any other suggestions?

sleeves?

why would you put sleeves (if that is in fact possible on MB, I don't know) but I certaintly feel that sleeves (if feasable) AND oversized oil control rings on the pistons are mutually exclusive....I would check this out further.....it would be either one or the other in my mind but not both...I would roll with the rings first....

This is not my area but I had a 6.3 for about twelve years. My mechanic always told me that it was designed so that it could take new sleeves when the cylinders got appropriately worn. Never did it because I sold the car at 150,000 miles. But perhaps the car in question can be sleeved. However, I believe all cylinders would be sleeved at the same time.

It is possible to sleeve and reuse the pistons if they are not too worn. It is fairly common to sleeve only the bad cylinders.
