W124 Rear Subframe squeak / Creak
A while ago I replaced all the links in my rear suspension including the four mounts. The car has developed a squeak / creaking sound when I hit the gas hard or brake hard. The sound is coming from the Forward driverside bushing (the rear suspension bushing closest to the rear door.
I remember when I originally removed the rear suspension I had to use a pry bar and sledge hammer to free it from the chassis. I think there was epoxy used when the rear suspension was installed. Question... Should I put epoxy on the rear body mounting points the rear suspension bolts to the body? I've checked the torque over and over again and it is right. I even tried a little more torque and it only curred it for a little while before squeaking again. I found a small amount of metal dust inside the rear bushing suggesting that the rear bushing is sliding against the body mount. I'm referring to the rear body mount as the long internally threaded dowel that extends from the car and goes into the forward rear suspension bushing. Anyone solve this problem? |
I think I finally solved my creaking rear suspension problem. I appears that the washer with rubber on one side is suppose to face the sub frame instead of away. This is the washer located on the foward rear subframe bushing.
I had installed the two washers with the metal side sitting flush to the subframe and as the subframe moved the metal washer would rub and make a creaking sound. I have flipped the washers over with the rubber side facing the sub frame. There is a small gap now between the rubber face of the washer and the sub frame. I couldn't find any info on how to install these washers and I believe there should be an FYI on this if your going to rebuild your rear suspension.:) |
Nice post back! Always great to see someone updating a thread. Thanks.
