Question Oil Leak after Oil Change in ML

I just changed the oil in my 99 ml 320 using a topsider device.
After making sure everything was tight I started the engine to let the oil circulate before checking it. The engine ran about 20 seconds then I shut it off. When I did I noticed oil leaking and puddling under the vehicle. I checked the oil level and it is now empty.
My question is WHAT HAPPANED??? I had put in 8 quarts of mobil 1 5/50 weight oil.

Thanks, all help appreciated!!!

Check around oil filter to see if leaking there. If the top o-ring is not aligned in the groove, or if the filter was over-tightened allowing a crimp in the o-ring, it will pump oil through the top of the filter housing. (removing the plastic manifold cover will facilitate a top side search)

the breach should be apparent with a little curious detective work....if you are not able to observe the leak source from top view, lift the car and review from the bottom side

most likely you will have the culprit located based on mbdogs advice...after all the oil will only leak from one of the pieces you have touched recently (if it was not leaking prior)

good luck and let us know what turns out

I have seen the gasket from the old oil filter stick to the oil filter boss and not realize it. The result was two rubber gaskets and the oil poured out of the "double gasket".
