Odd problem

I have a 190 which has had a 3.2 conversion done, mated to a std. transmission from a 16V. When I do a diagnostic fault search, I get a "magnet missing on cps" code.

My feelings are that whoever did the conversion may have utilized the flywheel from a 16V motor, which has no magnet, and of course is probably lighter than the flywheel for a 3.2 std. transmission arrangement.

I should know this for sure today or tomorrow, as we are intending to tear the existing clutch assembly down.

My intent is to replace this clutch assembly with one from a 3.2, but I may well need a 3.2 flywheel as well.

A) is there any way to mount an appropriate magnet on a 16V flywheel?

or

B) does anyone have a flywheel for a 3.2 std?

Of course here in the USA that engine was never mated to a manual trans!

That means you will have to special ORDER from MB a flywheel. ALSO the clutch is going to be 100% different from the 16V design.

What type of fuel management system does the car use? IS it a MB unit from the E320?

The 16V flywheel would NOT work with the OE fuel management system.
Possibly a 190E 2.6 flywheel was used. IF that is the case you could find the original ring gear from the 3.2 & match up where the magnet goes on the segment.

fuel management system is from 320...the car actually runs pretty well, however fuel mileage is pretty poor...better since we changed the O2, but still not very good....gear ratio's are part of the problem, as the car has an auto differential from a 16V. Because the car was purchased from a third party who did not do the work..little information is forthcoming from the builder, and I do not have handy access to the original flex plate...however we have ordered a flexplate for the 3.2 to measure the magnet position. I did not know which flywheel was used...it may well be from a 2.6, but at this point we are in the dark.

Will share info when it is known.
