Airflow sensor-Please help guys

I have a 1988 300 ce, When I force the first gear start the car dosen't accelerate till 2500 rpm then it goes with gusto, If I let the car start in second gear from a dead stop, it is lifeless till 2500 rpm then takes off again.
If I push the gas slowly down from a dead stop it slowly accelerates till the pedal hits the 3/4 mark then the car takes off with the same gusto as a down shift from first to second, even though it's in second gear start, If I force the first gear start from dead stop, again the car feels week till I hit the 3/4 mark with the gas pedal then it takes off again, The last part is the gas pedal is more linear when the car is cold, there is no snap in accleration @ the 3/4 mark. If I tap the gas from a dead stop the car will leap forward. This problem with dead gas pedal only occurs when the car is @ opperating temperature. I was thinking this could be the airflow sensor???? The car idles great and dosen't missfire,

Thanks
Mark

Have you tried getting a can of MAF cleaner and hosing it down? The stuff is only about $3.00, so it's a cheap first step. Also, while you're in there, take a look at the condition of your ETA (assuming you have one, of course). After 20 years it might need a bit of attention as well.

That's a mechanical AMM on that one. I don't know if that spray will do anything for that. Did you try searching?

I don't think the 88 has a hot film AMM like the later W124s, but I could be wrong. Didn't the coupe get the M104 sooner than the sedan?

Fastlane shows a picture of the deflector plate type, if it is correct. I think that is what you could call it. Or spring loaded type.

I was thinking it could be the potentiometer??? Any thoughts? What would the symptoms be with this issue? Thanks, this bugs me can you tell? lol

ON all CIS-E (KE-Jetronic) engine acceleration is controlled by opposing fuel pressures.

System pressure & control pressure. When you accelerate the control pressure drops & that accounts for accelerator enrichment.

Finding someone who understands that system & can measure those opposing pressures would be a starting point.
