W107 Transmission
The tranny on my '80 450SL , when cold, won't shift out of 1st gear until the car travels at least 1/4 of a mile. Once it does shift it performs flawlessly for the rest of the day. The next morning when cold the same problem persists till that first shift is achieved.
I changed the fluid and filter and noticed no difference. Does anyone out there know exactly what is causing this problem? If not, does anyone out there have an educated guess as to what the problem is? I have repaired a mew domestic transmissions over the past few years , but have never worked on a Mercedes Benz tranny . I really don't want to learn how to on this particular car unless it is something relatively simple as internal repairs go. Any recommendations from the service professionals out there who have worked on these transmissions will be greatly appreciated THANKS...BILL |
This is normal operation on some if not most Benzes made int he last 20 years or so. It is this way to warm the cat's faster if I remember correctly.
My 1992 300CE does this as well as my dad's 1994 SL600. My brothers 85 380SL Does it too I think.... Alon |
