Don't cut the rear, adjust the leveling. The rear springs won't hold the car up without the hydraulics.

#1 pads pn: 201-321-0984 that is for the 8mm version, there are (4) total and each add 5mm. For you, start with #1's for sure

Ride quality is no different with one coil cut and since they are not progressive springs, it makes no difference. With your 4matic, you just have to make sure you cut one entire coil off if you want to do it so you don't reverse anything since you don't have that luxury.

I am running 225/50/16 16x8 8 holes not a single rub at any point.
What pad number did you have before?

So the SLS leveling can be adjusted that far down?
I figure the springs will only let it drop very little.

Another thought is going to 19s
They fit the space well

Here's a video where I was test fitting a set
that was mounted on a 93 500sl I was working on

I thought about purchasing these (since he offered to sell),
but looked at tire prices which changed my mind

91 Mercedes W124 300TE with 19 inch rims - YouTube

I like them because the color matched pretty well with the trim
but the 17s I got instead worked out and the offset is better with 7.5/8.5 with 225/45 (ET32/34 or 34/36 I forget) staggered
(vs 19s 8.5x19ET32 245/35 - 9.5x19ET38 275/30.. It could be reversed ET since I sometimes confuse the number with +1 offset wheels)
and tire prices are less

The rear sags pretty good when the hydraulics fail. Simply cutting the spring won't lower it as the hydraulics will just compensate more to maintain its set level.

OK I see.
I haven't looked at it yet
but assume you place a jack underneath (for safety)
then adjust it (threaded shaft?) until desired height

OK.... found this later
