Poor acceleration off the line
 

Hi all,

I'm in information collecting mode so next time I have some free time I'll address a couple issues.

My '87 300e is running very well. Starts well, idles well and once rolling feels as powerful as ever. Lately though is seems a bit of a dog from a stand still, so much so that my wife has commented on it. Since everything else seems fine, any suggestions??

Are you describing a slight hesitation on acceleration? I suppose there are numerous possibilities. I know that when my 87 Supra did that it meant it was time to clean the electrodes in the distributor cap (or get a new one, but I found cleaning it worked just as well). So that is my .02. Pull it off and check the 6 contacts and if they have crust on them then scrape it off with something sharp like the end of a small file. Or get a new cap. If it is more than just a momentary hesitation then it is probably something else.

Red Line's fuel treatment might help.

From the description it seems as if you are having issues with fuel delivery, most notably acceleration enrichment. The EHA controls delivery of fuel and can cause low power when it is on the way out. Reading the lambda can give you an idea if it is functioning correctly. It's a pricey little bugger so you want to know it will resolve the issue before shelling out the cash.

Is it the transmission not shifting correctly? The adjustment cable could need attention.

Thanks everyone for your input. I replaced the cap, rotor and plugs 15k ago. I'll pull the cap and clean it and maybe change the plugs, but I suspect fuel delivery. Tranny also seems fine, shifts fine so far. I messed with the eha once before with less than acceptable results, if it gets worse I'll take it to my MB guy.
