going crazy! 2003 E500

Hey everybody, here's my problem:
1. The E500 started missing real bad 1 week ago, then check engine light came on
2. I took it to auto zone where they diagnosed the code that said,"misfire detected in cylinder 8."
3. I changed the plugs, wires and eventually the coil pack; the same condition still continued.
4. My brother-n-law who is a mechanic suggested a fuel injection cleaner, whichdid seem to make it somewhat better but not completely(he lives more than 100 miles from me).
5. now when i drive it, sometimes it'll run smooth, then sometimes it'll start missing while I'm sitting at a light then runs rough until I turn it off, restart it then it'l run smooth again.
6. all the while, i've had the check engine light reset 3 times already only for it to keep coming back on!
7. I also tried the mass air flow cleaner.
8. HELLLP!!!!!
9. I live in Michigan
10. it has 139,000 miles on it.

My 210 and my 163 both acted like that when the EGR valve was bad. But in those cases it set a code that indicated a bad egr valve.

Yeah thanks. it's only giving a code that says misfire detected in cylinder 8. But maybe that could be a reason. they offered no solutions.

Sorry didn't mean to be redundant. Just a little desperate. Only have 1 response(which I appreciate). I'm only looking for a little help-can't be the only one with this or similar problem...

When the plugs were replaced?? did you(shop) check compression?

If that checks out, what was the last time the car went to dealer.
MOST likely they can re-flash the fuel computer & re-adapt the sensors & throttle so the misfire won't happen.

Thanks! No, when the plugs were replaced by me< I didn't check for compression; that was last summer and it ran excellent up until now. The car was last at the dealer earlier this year for a suspension problem. I will go there and ask about the re-flashing. Do you have any idea how much that will cost? I appreciate your response.

Did you investigate either of MB Docs ideas? Basically you have to do what he says and if you don't then you are ignoring the advice of one of the top experts that we have. You won't get more expert advice, certainly not from me or just about anyone else on this site. Once you get a response from him then you have to stop posting until you check out what he said.

Move the coil to a different cylinder and see if the miss moves. If it does, then you need a coil. I think it is probably the ignition wires.
