Servicing C300
 

I'm new here, and would love some responses. I work for a GM dealership, and my daughter just bought a C300. It's coming up on 11k miles, and I was wondering if the oil change can be done here at my dealership (would be at least $100 savings). I don't want to hinder or void her warranty. I also noticed (strangely) that the transmission fluid has to be done @ 39k? Does that have to be done at MB also? And is there anything that MUST be done @ the benz dealership?

No, anyone can service the car. Make sure that you use the perscribed fluids & OE factory filters.

You can service the trans..has to be filled thru the drain plug, again make sure to use ONLY MB fluid...PART NUMBER 000-989-68-03-10.

Keep receipts.

Thanks, a first civilized answer. Everyone I am asking is treating me like i got the plague for not wanting to take the car to an autorized Benz dealer. Appreciate your input. By the way, here at my dealership we use Mobil 1 synthetic oil, I presume that is what MB uses also. And, what about resetting the maintenance reminder?...And if you don't mind, what about the transmission fluid, does that have to be done @ 39000 miles also, seems a short time for that.

For 8 years MB suggested fill for life fluid.....seems the transmissions were failing before normal "lifetime".

So in 2003 they issued a bulletin suggesting that a 1 time service at 60K kilometers would do. Now in 2009 they recommend trans fluid changes every 40K miles.

Same fluid, same trans!

Go figure.....seems all the manufacturers have the same outlook....same thing, different playing field

And it ain't Mercon/Dextron III either:eek:.

At least way back in the day when you changed it every 30k miles you could use the lower priced ATF.

How in the world do you fill it through the drain plug? What genius engineer came out with that arrangement? Do you have to turn the car upside down to fill it? Inquiring minds want to know.

I say go for it.

It is a Dex 3 base fluid. Its the additive pack that makes it special.

MBDOC - I'd also like to know how you are supposed to refill it.

I'm in the same camp as the OP I would like to service my '06 E3504matic while is in warranty myself. It also has a 2 year extended warranty. I have serviced all my cars forever and bought an oil extractor specificaly for this car. Assuming that I know what I am doing when I perform the services, and I perform them consistant with the maintanance schedule, how do I defend myself down the road in the event of a failure against Mercedes saying it wasn't properly maintained?

ON the 722.9 trans you have to pump the trans fluid thru the DRAIN plug hole & bring the trans to approx 110F & then remove filling adaptor & catch the over flow!

Wonder what genius designed this? Do you have a p/n for the filling adaptor?

And, well, although I`m no mechanic, I see that there is an advantage
of not having to route a dipstick tube up to the engine bay.
And since also the electronics is in the same place as the
valve body, even less communication has to be drawn.

Looks like MB coppied ZF.....bmw hasn't had a dipstick tube since the early 90's!!!!

MB number 900-589-00-91-00 OR Assenmacher (AST tools) ATF 129.

Less $$ from MB.

Thanks MB Doc. I'll put one in the tool box. I'm kinda/sorta poking fun at it but I suspect the reason they are designed this way is because the MB engineers are determined to make sure it receives the proper transmission fluid level which is a good thing.
