low brake pedal
i have a 89 mbz 300e. i just replaced front and rear brake calipers, rotors, brake lines, pads, brake fluid, and brake master cylinder. (i also bled the brakes). the brake pedal seems to be alot lower than normal. does anyone have a clue why the brake pedal is so low. there difinetely is no air in the lines, and the car is stopping with no problem just that the pads are gripping when the pedal is lower than normal?
could it be the brake booster or the vacuum line that goes into the brake booster? is there a way to test the vacuum line? |
Double check the fluid level. The angle of the reservoir and the clear new fluid make it very easy to accidently allow one section of the reservoir to bleed dry.

low brake pedal
thanks mike for your advice, but it has already been done. (about 5-6 times: bleeding). i even changed the resevoir and master cylinder.
i checked with a friend of mine at a mbz dealership, and he said that's a common problem with 300E's. (i believe he said that the abs system "locked up" or "trapped"). inorder to solve the problem, he said to drive it in reverse, and slam on the brakes real hard a few times. this is suppose to activate the abs and will bring back my hard pedal feel. we'll see. i think i am going to try this on a mechanic's lift. i think this is much safer. let me know what you think. later, ai |
My first thought was bleeding also .But I dontno that much about abs actually I no nothing about the abs :rolleyes:When you find out if it is the abs would you post your finds for the rest of us who are not familiar with this system? Thanks in advance

Aiino,
You must try activating the ABS on ground... if your wheels are in the air... ABS won't activate! |
