Distributor rotation
My 1976 450SL firing order is 1 5 4 8 6 3 7 2. The folks at Auto Zone, and their website, states that the rotor turns counter-clockwise. However, mine is wired clockwise per the firing order. Which is correct? The car is hard to start when cold and backfires through the throttle plate. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pop the cap off and rotate the engine. You will see which way the rotor spins.
