92 300Ce Radiator Removal instructions
 

Can anyone help me with instructions on how to remove the radiator from my car so I can replace it. It looks prety straight forwad from what I can see, but I would like ot know if there is anything special or something I should look out for when doing it.

My radiator broke the neck for the hose today. Damn cheap radiator. Nto orignal factory one, some aftermarket company probablya remanufactured one.

It was in the car when I bought it.

Thanks in advance for the help, I plan on ordering a new radiator today from fastlane, if my local mechanic can't get one for me. I'm giving the local mech 20-30 more minutes, then I'm placing the order through here. :)

What kind of engine do you have? I did mine on my W124 (M104 engine), and for a dim-wrench like me who has never done a radiator before, it took all of an hour and a half for the removal and subsequent install of the new one. Did the p's and q's for another 1/2 hour on the following day before starting up the car and testing...

Remove the fan shroud, remove the hold down clips, remove the hoses (may want to even replace them while doing the job), remove the cooler lines for the tranny and pull the radiator out. You will need to transfer the rubber pieces at the bottom of the existing radiator to the new radiator (if they were transferred to begin with). These are used to "close" the gap between the bottom of the radiator and the frame. The installation is the reverse of the above :). Take your time replenishing the fluid. I fill the block from the upper radiator hose prior to hooking it back up. Make sure the new radiator has the metal insert in the upper hose connection. Fill the tranny fluid going by level after getting the car good and hot. Do not just add automatic transmission fluid just because you lost some. You will be surprised - if you keep the hoses elevated as much as possible you will not lose enough to matter.

highly suggest being the picture perfect example for the virtual souls here and order from fastlane!!!!- - regardless if your mechanic can get one or not....then, have fun- fun- fun and DYI and post an article here!!!!

>>>don't forget: MB antifreeze, hoses and clamps, water wetter, inspect belt and whatever else you can clean and see with the rad out.

You might check with your local radiator shops on the viability of replacing the tank before you buy a whole new radiator...

-fad, I'd love to, but I need my car by first thing in the morning, and I can't get one from fastlane here and installed by the time I need it. So My mech will have to do. plus its a behr radiator, and its new, and the price is excellent because my mech is also a friend.

I order from here when I can, in this case, I just cannot.

ok Alon...just pulling your leg a bit- we know you're a first-level supporter of mercedesshop....just curious if you were a first-level militant diehard supporter.....

I had the luxury of retiring my BMW for two whole weeks while ordering a new cooling system (a couple pieces at a time) from partshop....

The DIY is up.

I did not give a huge explanation for everything, I don't think it was that hard to do. I gavce a quick explanation of what to do. Fairly Simple.

No no NO!!! Don't paint anything on the radiator!!!:eek:

Paint acts as an insulator, so you'll inhibit the heat dispersing properties of the radiator!!!

It's bad enough that these things break at the hose neck...

Paint some brake calipers...

I like the silver radiator. :) no painting.

Calipers yes I willd o those one day sooner or later..
