First Hiccup on The Excelsior: Turn Signals 1995 E320 Wagon

Today the turn signal controls were unresponsive, as well as the slowest setting of the windshield wiper. Everything else on the multi-switch worked properly, but the hazard switch was unresponsive as well. Everything came back once, and was working perfectly until the next time I drove the car.

I already changed the fuse, and am curious if people think the multi-switch is the issue or the relay controlling it. It seemed like a slam dunk for the multi-switch until I noticed the hazard switch not working either. Could a failed multi-switch cancel out hazards?

Where is the relay controlling all of this located, by the way? I'm still getting acclimated to the new chassis.

I'd have to look it up, but I think the convenience module (long relay in the center, back half of the fusebox) controls that and the rear defog. I had to replace mine ('94) as my rear-defog was not working properly.

If that's it, I'm looking at the sucker, 201 821 00 47 The 201/124/126 used them, easy to find a replacement, I had one sitting around gathering dust.

I had a similar problem not long ago. I pulled the multi-function relay out-it's under the cover to the rear of the fuse box-and placed it in the freezer. After getting it cold the functions controlled by the relay again worked, until the rely warmed up. I replaced the relay and haven't had any problems with it's functions since.

combination relay

Right where the others said! I had identical problems! Turned out to be the relay. Got it for about $60 online and everything was fine after replacement!

Thanks... Could anyone post a picture of said relay, or an arrow pointing to it, please?

Where did you get this $60.00 replacement?

Electronics typically quit working when they get too hot. Freezing the relay gets it back to a temperature where it will work again-until it heats up and quits again. It's not a fix, the relay is still defective, it's a diagnostic tool.

I'm not gonna take a photo tonight, it's 35 deg and raining. To the rear of the fuse box is a cover held down by 4 screws. Take out the screws and lift the cover, the relay is marked "mult-function" IIRC.

No... My first post lists that the hazard switch and slowest setting of the windshield wiper don't work as well.

Its freezing outside, so perhaps if it works when I start it in the morning???

Its 28 degrees currently, and after sitting outside overnight, the signals and windshield wipers are working properly... I guess that means its the relay. Thanks everybody.
