What do you think of Walmart synthetic oil?

Do we know who makes it? I usually use Mobil 1 or Castrol, but seems that Walmart oil could not be that bad... For $17 for 5 quarts, hard to beat.

Where are able to buy Mobil1 for that price? Valvoline doesn't meet 229.5 does it?

Advance auto had a special last week - 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter for $29.99. Sounds like a good deal until you buy the two additional quarts you need at nearly $8 each.

You would be better off to buy two sets then it is $6 each with a couple of filters thrown in. I just paid $7 at the dealer

Mobile 1-10w30 is $32 and change for a 6 pack at the price club/costco. Been using it for 10 years in an S-320 and SL-320. Neither use any oil between 5000 mile changes. I get my filters from Phil on this site.

As i recall the Walmart brand is Super Tech, and is currently manufactured by Pennsoil or Quaker State. As for the specs, I assume you're talking about the API. At any rate, any oil that meets or exceeds the API would be OK to use.

The only thing that matters is whether it meets Mercedes specification 229.3 or 229.5.

If that's not on the bottle, forget it.

This is not something that merits an Internet thread otherwise.
