Rear Axle Seal

Anyone ever changed a rear axle seal on 95 C220?I have one that drips a couple drops of oil every few days and was wondering if this is a DIY job or take it to the shop?I do most things myself but this looks like it wouldn't be fun.How bad do you think it should get before worrying about it or is there an oil additive that I could use that might seal it up?Appreciate any help on this.

Is the leak on the pinion OR at one of the axle-shafts?

To replace the pinion oil seal...you need to be VERY careful & should have a inch-pound torque wrench to measure the turning force on the differential bearings before starting.

MB Doc,the leak is on the axle seal. Not the pinion seal, looks like a real bear to change.Any advice or whatever?

One word of advice that works well for me at least and others who have tried. While changing any seals on tranny or T case or diff I usually clean the area thoroughly and then put a thin layer of Tri Bond gasket compound, then place the seal and coat the exterior with the same stuff as well. This way it protects the seal and prevents oil from seeping by the side. I have seals that are running for ten years without any hitches.
