Could someone please identify this.....

...two-pin connector for me? This is underneath the front passenger side floor carpeting on my '91 300E. It is 2 white wires connecting to a brown and a black/red wire. The part #'s that house these pins are 012-545-84-28 and 012-545-86-28. Found standing water down here and this connector got corroded, have no clue what it is. Car runs fine in this state, but could be the cause of my check engine light illuminating.

TIA

I would think it is the connector for the oxygen sensor. Trace the wire and see if it penetrates the floor and leads to the oxygen sensor.

iodyn,

The wires are for the O2 sensor. The bottom wire (brown to green) is the signal wire. The two white wires in your hand are the heater wires. From the pic it looks like one of them is broken.

Since the O2 sensor is a heated 3 wire, it will still function, but it will take a little longer for the sensor to heat up.

The check engine could be on due to this, but only if the signal wire has a problem. I don't think the check engine will be triggered if the heating element is not working. I would pull the codes to make sure it is not something else causing the check engine light.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the swift responses!

The signal wire was not corroded, but was soaked. I cleaned everything out down there, and made a reconnection to the heater wires. So far no check engine light.... yet.... we'll see!

Thanks again :D
