'97 C-230 EC Problem

Every winter the EC (Economy Mode) light comes on & stays on. No problem for winter but when you need the AC in the summer the EC mode keeps the AC from working.

The local MB service guys replaced a control unit a year and a half a ago. Winter of '07, you guessed it, the EC problem popped up again. Last June they decided to replace the AC compressor & receiver dryer.

Guess which light lit up last Monday? Yup. "EC." Won't turn off.

1) Anybody know how to turn the EC off?

2) Does it sound like the dealer service guys have a clue?

3) How do you contact a zone rep & can they be helpful?

Thanks~

You need to search for the procedure to extract trouble codes and current sensor values from your climate control pushbutton unit. That is, if you have one.

This is most likely related to a sensor problem. The evaporator temp sensors go bad causing the system to go into ec mode and also the pressure sensors.
There could also be a coding error. The control unit can be coded to not recognized the pressure sensor, possibly. I do not remember if the c class did this.
Really sounds like a evaporator temp sensor to me though.

To start with you are suggesting the car has a auto climate control problem.

The work that was done was related to basic A/C system.

IN MOST cases they aren't related.

As suggested the climate control system HAS self-diagnostic abilities.
Try searching for the sequence that allows that self diagnostics.
