Could a cracked Rotor Suppressor Housing cause misfire?

Could this crack be the cause of all my misfire problems? I found her while taking off my head to do the gasket




What do ya guys think? Obviously I'm gonna replace it....just curious. Little bugger is $58 !

Possibly.....but I'd bet on dirty/fouled spark plugs or bad wires or a weak coil before that cover......

On my 300E the misfire was from coked spark plugs. Cleaned them all off real good and adjusted the gap, and now it runs smoooooth.

Trust me I've gone through all the basics beyond belief lol. The entire ignition system is practically brand new. This housing is basically the only thing I have not replaced.

(I feel silly as to have missed the crack when I did the rotor + cap assuming it has been cracked all the time)

Looks servicable to me. Save your money and spend it on a real problem.

If everything else is in good shape then it very well could be the issue.

Another possibility could be a failing or faulty "ignition control module" its that thing on the drivers side fender with the large plugs connected to it and a vacuum line attached to the middle. I've heard that those can go bad and cause problems.

Isnt that just the cap that goes under the rotor? On older vehicles it was used to protect the points from unknowing people playing with them and messing up dwell. My 4.5 has been without one for a very long time and it runs fine.

Yes it is.

I'll replace it for good measure, but at least I know this most likely isn't my misfire. I'll still focus on my head gasket as the culprit.

I just got in my new distributor cap, rotor, gasket, and cover today. The production date stamp on the distributor cap was '98! Thats old stock!!
