SLK 32 high beams not working correctly

2003 SLK 32 AMG, high beam works half the time but flash never works, no "bulb out" warning. Hoping it's not the multi switch but I guess that's the main suspect right now. Any thoughts?

Thats what it sounds like to me, you already checked the fuses right?

land sea air 12-09-2008 08:34 AM

yeah the fuses are fine, is it the same stalk for all slks? I can't find the part online. P.S. I'm going to take care of that thing with that stuff...

The only thing that could cause these symptoms is faulty switchgear, or 2 blown bulbs (unlikely) of loose connections to the switchgear or bulbs (very unlikely)

2 blown bulbs is impossible since the lights will still turn on half the time. Unfortunately all signs point to the indicator switch or at best the connections for it. Are there any relays I should check? Where can I find the switch?

2 blown bulbs would throw the bulb failure light on. power isnt making it through the switch and never reaching the module so it's not saying theres a bulb failure.

So I'm an electrical engineer, right. If I can get someone to help me take off the steering-wheel and such, would there be anything that I could look at to make sure I can't repair the combination switch? I found the part, and it's a bit expensive. Is there any known common failure?

Fin!

Got the replacement combination switch from Potomac German Auto (they're fantastic apparently), and we replaced the faulty part. Everything works now! Thanks for the help, espescially JohnHef and LandSeaAir.:D
