I have a 1988 w124 260e . The under hood engine compartment temp is very high. The windscreen washer water reaches 60 degrees celcius which I am sure is not normal , you can`t put your finger in it as it burns you. Even the front fenders get very warm. The car indicates normal running temp. I was wondering if by using that exhaust insulating wrap would decrease the under hood temp as the supplier advertises. Any thoughts or advice?

I'm not sure on an 88 260E but my 84 500SEL heats the washer fluid with engine coolent to keep it from freezing. I'm not sure about my 91 300E either as I have never looked. I will check today.

The W124 does have heated washer fluid. Your thermostat to keep it at the proper temp might not be working.

On the 260E, it was not standard equipment. May have been an option.

Hi thanks for the replies but as I live in South Africa we do not have the heated option due to our warm climate .The washer bottle is a tank on it`s own and has no other input. I am still concerned about the high temperatures on hot days and in heavy traffic.

yeah i have also read about the Reduce Under Hood Temps- Exhaust Wrap
but i haven't try using it... just wondering if it is effective..

Check aux fans and viscous...also check that the lower engine compartment encapsulation panel has not been removed.
