Help!! - Blower motor shut off - now back on
 

I have a 1987 300E. The blower motor has never failed. However on low speed it does make a low wining noise. Today it stopped working. Regardless of which button I pushed on the climate control I could not get it to come on. I left the car for 15 minutes, came back started it up and the blower is working fine. Any ideas?

Check the fuse....

Motor dying
 

Chances are your blower motor is dying. They get very dirty over time. So dirty, the dirt drys out the bearings until the blower cage freezes up. The whinning is dry bearings. Usually a cold motor will squeal. As the engine heat warms the motor up, the cage may turn to some degree.

These motors are accessed from the engine compartment by removing(or at least setting aside) the wiper assembly.
If you have a couple of hours and are somewhat handy in the DIY department take the motor out and replace with new/rebuilt/used. Or if your brushes are in fairly good shape, clean the dirt out and shoot some WD into the bearings.

I have had better luck finding 190E and 190D blower motors in better than good shape for replacement. Not very lucky with the 300E models.
Perhaps someone here may be of help if you chose to replace the motor.
Unfortunately the 190E 190D blowers are smaller than the 300E. Not interchangable.

That's why I mentioned it....very common to have a poor connection at the fuse/fuse holder . Search "Blower Fuse " .

on 560 its fuse #5 which supplies power to the acc control which controls the blower motor now on your car not sure of your fuse desination but check the one that feeds the acc.. if you have the same fuses that are on my car which are the ceramic type which plugs into a spring loaded slot which seats on brass it must be cleaned with contact cleaner hope this helps.

Not fuse 5 on your 124 chassis ..ACC is #7, but it is not ACC panel feed I am concerned with..it is blower fuse for LOAD side ..that fuse is in a seperate holder outside the fuse box and is 30A..... fuse F-15

On my car, the blower fuse is a separate fuse and it has its own little fusebox. It uses one of those metal strip style fuses, and they can go intermittent just before going out completely. They are like $5 at the dealer, if they have them. I found mine at a VW dealer.

Ther were 4 production changes to the wiring and fuse for the blower on 300E chassis. .., so comparing anyones car to the posters can be incorrect .. He has a '87 300E..That had the change mid-year to the link fuse. Before that change , the fuse was in the box , and after that there was a modification kit just outaide the fuse box. Then the link on the strut tower.
The ACC Control panel fuse has nothing to do wiith the blower load power ..it is simple power feed to the CP , no blower motor load.
