Fuel gauge problem

'92 300CE fuel gauge seems to stick until going down the road awhile. I have already replaced the sending unit and searched for threads regarding the problem.

Any body have any ideas? Is there another sending unit at the gauge cluster?

Thanks ahead of time.

I have a 91 300CE, that does the same thing; however, I have not resolved the issue either...just thought it might help knowing that it seems to be a relatively common problem, since my old 300SD had the same problem with its gauge. I'd like to follow this thread and find out more about it.

Does tapping the dash near gauge fix the issue? I had similar problem with RPM meter, removing and cleaning the RPM input wire contact at instrument cluster worked.

Tapping the dash does not seem to do the trick. Just driving down the road and letting it "do its thing" seems to.

It has occured to me that this may have been a common problem with these model year cars, although it seems that people that own Merz would not have stood for such fickle problems and would have demanded a fix from the dealers considering how much they would have paid for the cars at the time.
