'92 140 ASR box replacment

Hello all,

I had my 92 500SEL checked out for a ASR/ABS light on, he found a code for the rt front wheel sensor missing. He then checked the sensor and said it was working fine. He said the signal was present at the controlers pins so he thought the controler is bad.

I got a used controler but when I installed it the light doesn't even turn off like the other controler did, just stays on. Is there anything that needs to be done to get the used controler to learn this different car?

Just to explain the original problem, start car, lights go off. First time you hit the brake the abs kicks in and the lights come on. no traction control or abs when light is on. If I start car and take off in the snow, traction works until I hit the brakes.

Thanks

Ron

the symptoms you describe usually mean that you need to replace both front abs sensors.you can try taking them both out of the wheel hubs and cleaning.if you f ind a lot of metal stuck to the ends that could cause the problem.

Sounds to me like a brake switch, inexpensive part and easy to replace

Any thoughts on the used controler that I bought? Should it act just the same as the one in the car or is there something that needs to be done to it to get it to work.

I need to know because if there is something wrong with it I can return it, if it is ok and just needs to be programed or something it wouldn't seem right to return it because I needed a test part.

The left front sensor was replaced not that long ago because the speedo needle was jumping, that took care of that problem. And since he tested the rt front and said the signal was good why would the controler spit out a bad rt front sensor if it's the brake light switch?
