126 transmission mount issues

Hey Group
I recently replaced the motor mounts, engine shocks, and just replaced the transmission mount. When I pulled off the old transmission mount I found 3 washers on the threaded rod that goes up into the transmission. After I replaced the mount without the 3 washers, I put everything back together and drove her. I had vibration and noise coming from that area. So i pulled everything off again and put the 3 washers back on with the new mount. Did a test drive and the vibration and noise is still there. I am at a loss. I am thinking about putting the original transmission mount (not that bad of shape) back in. Any ideas would be appreciated.

126 trans prob.

Check the exhaust line in the area between and the cat. conv. The clearance between this line and the bell housing is very close and may have changed for the worse after you replaced the mounts.

Has anyone ever heard of shops putting shims in the transmission mount area to keep vibration/noise down?

Yeah, if it's your 30SEL then the exhaust pipe could be hitting the cross member just behind the idler arm. If so, it will do it worse when you turn left and accelerate.
Never heard of shimming up the rear mount, but it seems kinda red-neck logical if the mount has sagged.
If the new mount has brought the height back up and you still have the vibration, it might be the center driveshaft bearing support, or the front flex disk; might have been getting old, and you finished it off when you worked on the rear mount? that center bearing is fun, you get to get up close and personal with your exhaust system.

Not to hijack this thread, but I am having my exhaust hit the cross member. (90 300SE) Here's the strange part - I've replaced the motor and trans mounts and it's hitting worse now than it was before. WTF??? Part of me just wants to put a dent in the pipe so it don't hit no more, but this is a Benz...... That shouldn't be necessary.....

I was having the same issue with the exhaust hitting the center cross member. I put 3 thick washers on the bolts holding the cross member to the frame on the passenger side. That noise is gone, but I have another noise coming from underneath now. I am going to pull the washers off of the transmission mount and then see how everything lines up. I will check the center support and the front flex disk. This whole mess started when I let the shop on the corner replace the flex disk. I will look and see if they put it in backwards or something blatantly stupid. Is there any way that something got out of alignment when I jacked up the transmission to get the mount off?
