$3600?! Really? That sounds like a good deal. Nice-looking car.

Something doesn't sound right there - that would be about half way into the 96 model year. I can't remember them extending the model year for wagons - they certainly didn't for sedans.

cphilip, from your pictures the interior appears to be Parchment. I own a Polar White 1995 E320 sedan with Mushroom interior and it is darker than your interior which looks like the Parchment interior of my mom's 1995 E320 sedan. From my personal observation Mushroom and Parchment are two distinct colors. Mushroom is Color Code 265.

Obtaining those missing records to fill in the history

Including window sticker. [COLOR="Red"] From then it moved to Charlotte NC and also appears to have been just as meticul ously maintained but no real documentation (appears was maintained by a certified Indy (some in the back of the books slips indicate this)

I gave the man $3600 for it. Drove it home from Charlotte on Friday.
.

Call or contact that "missing" indy since you know the address, and request photocopies of all the old records.

Having ALL records will not only inform you of everything that has been done, and may save you buckets of money from having to redo things not needed, it is also very reassuring to know the entire service and repair history from mile zero.

Not to mention a complete fully documented history from mile zero, will boot the resale value quite a bit if you ever sell it.

It's VERY easy to obtain. Simply fold in a $20 bill with your written request, "for photocopying costs". Worked for me EVERY single time.

Awesome catch for the price. Those W124 wagons are gorgeous. The Best looking ones that Mercedes Benz has EVER made. Last of the totally unarguable "cost no object" fit and finish, and build quality on the E class, too, that's the W124 series.

Fred, Mushroom is the just euro name for 265 (leather), which is called parchment or creme beige in the U.S. They are basically all the same except that there can be some color variation in various years and models. Nobody had even heard of mushroom until the Russian web site popped up with the euro name and took it as gospel.

Yes. It just says parchment on the USA original Slip so its USA Parchment really. Its the Russian site that attaches the name mushroom to code 175. The Russian site shows the same 175 code and calls it Mushroom.

The Russian site says the Delivery date is 08.12.95 so I think maybe I read it wrong perhaps or remembered it wrong when I posted that. But I am not sure euro manufacturers followed out USA normal production year schedule?

And yes. I do have the second owners name and one slip that is from an Indy doing service on it. Would be a neat thing to do to try and run that stuff down. I might venture down that path when I get caught up. Would be valuable to me to fill that gap in. I was just impressed I had all its early years. I also want to call Mercedes and have them run the Vin to see what other things might have been done to it (besides just service stuff). Might be interesting too. I thought I would start there.

I thought $3600 might be a tad high but am gambling on that I am right and its head gasket is done as well as the wiring harness. I did offer $3000 but was quickly rebuked. And then, by this time I just had enough confidence in it and my ability to go up to $3500 and he went down to $3600 and stuck there. I had only taken $3500 in cash with me. So I told him thats all I had. He said send me the $100 and stuck to it. I decided not to let it go over just another $100 so I did. This was a Dealer, but a small wheeler dealer kind of dealer. A Jordanian Immigrant trying to make a living. But he does not know anything about Benz's. He probably could have done some research and gotten some documentation together and been able to ask $5500 or the car. He said I was the only person he ever saw come look at a car and take out a knife and start cutting into his wiring harness! I thought he was going to have a fit when I did that. I didn't cut it, I just loosened some of the tape to I could peal it back. But I had to check right? If its not been redone (which I think it has) then it would be high. If it is then I made out. Although I can tell you that my indy, when he sees it, will tell me I paid too much! He always does. But then after a while he starts telling me what a great solid car I got. So we shall see... My only regret is that it was located too far away from him to have him also check it out first. Just had to go with my research and what I have been able to learn by looking at a lot of them.

I can say it drives and handles and runs like new. All the cooling fans work when they are supposed too. All the accessories work like they should and it has great power and does not leak a drop of anything. I have been parking it over a pad for three days now watching. Nothing. Correct coolant was also a tip off that someone has been maintaining it that knew what they were doing. Lots of little tips to that.

Congratulations!

Except for a couple of very minor diffs we have the very same wagon.

I had a burgundy 300TE when I moved to Arizona and ever since then, and after a very hot summer, I decided I wanted a white one. One day I saw it in the paper and it now sits in my garage. I'd send you a picture but what's the use...yours is identical.

By the way I also have, had a 240D in blue, like the one in your picture which I gave to my daughter when she was in college at UC Santa Cruz. I think that car may be close to half a million miles. And still rides great!

Best regards,
