Retrofitting "switch" to enable/disable passenger airbag?

Using the search function, I found a lot of stuff on disabling or not disabling passenger side airbags. Bottom line: wife is pregnant with 3rd kid. If she's out of town with the minivan (company car, sorry), I CANNOT fit 3 kids across the back of my '94 E420 in car seats, and the oldest is 3 y.o. Can I, or has anybody, retrofitted a "switch" to enable/disable the airbags, like the post-'98 models have??? Thanks so much for your info. It's either that, or I trade the car in for a Chevy Suburban! --Mitch

You could get someone who is insane and doesn't care if they get the crap sewed out of them to wire you up a switch to tun on and off the power to the control unit. This will turn off all air bags and seat belt tighteners..........

Sorry.

But wouldn't that make the SRS light go on? And it would stay on whether the switch was in the ON or OFF position, because it would have stored a code. And this can not be erased without taking it to the dealer (mine charges $90 for the diagnostic). And it would be the same even if you were just able to get the passenger airbag.

Mitch,

I posted a reply to your air bag question under your post in the Shop Swap area.

Only takes about 5 minutes and costs less than $4. SRS warning light will not be on. Can just as easily and quickly be re-enabled.
