W126, weak center A/C vents... ?

1990, 300sel.

Rebuilt the A/C portion of the HVAC last summer. Also had three bad vac pods so those were replaced, the typical 126 ones... behind the glove box and the main defroster. Others tested fine.

Now, my air moves properly between vents when the temp wheel changes BUT! one of my center vents is weak (driver side of course) while the passenger center vent blows properly. :confused:

Both outer vents blow properly and no leaking air to the footwell nor the dash.

Any ideas? :confused:

Well, if you've already replaced the pods, then the only thing that comes to mind is something mechanically jammed in the air flap, or you have an obstruction. I was under the (perhaps false) impression that both center vents were on a single flap, in which case this is very strange.

Hmmm....

I know - Pull your instrument cluster and look behind there and make sure that the rubber portion of the ducting hasn't slipped off or gotten pinched on one side.... I'll bet that's it..

Yes, I poked in there with a flash light and there's just the single main flapper in there to shut off air flow to them.

That's something I'd not thought of... :D be nice to have the air on my face as opposed to the abyss behind the dash.

One other possibility I just thought of - Got kids?

Possible foreign object in there such as a playing card?

Any luck on this?

Just yesterday, I had the opportunity to poke around 126 dash and I can tell you that that rubber conduit can indeed pop off easily, and it can leak air out even when it's still on. It's a loose fit. Plus there are plenty of things back there that could easily squish it flat if they were out of place.;

If yours is torn, holler back at me I can get one from pick-n-pull real cheap, and I almost removed it yesterday.

Haven't had a chance to look, my tools to yank the cluster are out of town. :(
