My 1997 E320 CRUSHED see the pics
1 Attachment(s)
A HUGE 90 foot tall pine tree hit my home, then landed on My 1983 300SD (minimal roof damage) and the other part of the tree TOTALLED my 1997 E320.....Hopefully, the image uploaded so you guys can see...
A month ago, I purchased a 1995 E320 wagon with 108,000 miles on it, THANK GOD that was in my garage...... Anyways, as insurance goes, my E320 had 196,000 miles on it, at best I'm thinking that I'll get 5K in insurance money for it...... My question is: For 5k, what would be the best bang for the buck in a C class???? I've never owbed a C class before and would be using it for my daily commuter in HOTlanata.......Any suggestions are greatly appreciated......I'm actually leaning towards an older C220 |
I'd look for a 1999-2000 C-klasse, good cars, should be able to find a halfway decent one for $5K. Also might be worth looking for a very nice W201 at that price.
|
W201s????? Nope, can't do it........I've never cared for them, in any respect.

Impressive to see how well the roof survived that impact.
That's an easy problem to fix. Just remove the radiator cap, slide a new car underneath it and tighten it back down. -tp |
201? No no

Looking back at my W202 C280, I can recommend one of those and the only real problem, namely the leaky head gasket, has undoubtedly been replaced years ago. Don't buy another W210 as their rust problems are getting worse. The latest edition of the German car mag Auto Motor und Sport has a picture article showing all the rust areas which are all over the place. In the mashed car pic, I notice that the RF upper spring perch did not break off which is one of the latest problem areas to come to light. One last, do not buy a 4-cylinder W202. Noisy, rough, agricultural. |

Here's another that I'm seriously considering.....I'll throw an additional 2K on top of the 5K if this is in really great shape. they did not post the mileage, that does concern me a bit

Wow, hope you and the family are OK. That's sad to see it squashed like that... Can I buy your cup holder? :D Mine's broken... :( The insurance company won't miss it!
|
ROTF!!!!! Sorry, but the insurance company has already had it towed away......You can find the cup-holder on ebay for a reasonable price

A $4,800 W140 from a used car dealer in an iffy section of Atlanta? Run as fast as you can - away from that car. The Diesel S-class that you posted in Dunwoody might be worth a look, but be prepared for potential terminal issues w/ that motor - search for "Rod Bender" on this site. |
hey former jerze gotta love this -- jz

That looks like a huge pine tree. Looks like a 100 year old (or older) Slash Pine tree to me. Those are very heavy trees. Looks like the car held up very well considering. For that kind of $, you could buy a very nice W126.... or are you wanting a smaller, later model MB? |
if you're buying that S class diesel, keep looking around for a 3L 603 engine. I hear they just drop in. Or you could try the 606DY conversion. I know they had the 606 in the S class in europe.
