Snow tires for W210
I know there is a tire forum but I want a broad range of opinions please. Tire Rack offers a snow tire set (4 tires + steel rims) for about $1000 for my 1999 E300 Turbodiesel. The stock tires are 215/55/16 and the tires the package uses are Dunlop SP-2 195/65/15, not sure of the sidewall height but the rim size is right. My question is will the smaller tires affect the stability of the car? Isn't the suspension tuned for 16" wheels?

You stated your stock tire size of 215/55/16. That is not the correct OEM size for a 94 E320.

Thanks for the replies but I think I have my chassis numbers right. The snow tires I was asking about are for my 1999 E300 TD not my 1994 E320 wagon. I re-checked Tire Rack on line and they offer a snow tire in the stock 215/55/16 size for the TD with steel rims. Still a little early to make a purchase but I like being prepared.

I have Michelin Pilot Alpin's 215/55R-16 snow tires for my W210 and they are excellent on the snow and ice. I never would have thought that the W210 could handle so well on snow and ice. My summer tires are Michelin Pilot's P225/50R-16 which I got stuck on my ice covered driveway.
For my winter tires I purchased a set of AMG look-alike rims from Bekkers. They are a quality rim made in Germany but not the same quality (or price) as the authentic AMG rims. The smaller tire may affect your speedometer which also may affect you transmission shifting slightly. |
