Axle removal
I need to remove the rear axles on my 83 300D turbo. The wheel end is a no brainer. However the differential end appears to need the diff. cover pulled off. Does this sound right? Or is like some front wheel drive vehicles, that you can pop them out using a pry bar. I need to change them as I have discovered that this is the source of my vibrations. I want to do this by weeks end so any help would be appreciated.

Pull the differential cover and if you look real close you can see some "clips" that hold the axle shafts in place. Remove these clips and the axles slide out.

Thanks, it sounds like the old 9 inch chrysler rear end.

Thanks for the links Ken. They will come in handy. Nothing worse than a 123 that has the shakes. I checked the drive shaft and it was all ok (I now have a couple of flex discs to get rid of). While I had it on the lift I noticed the left axle shaft had some veritcal movement to it while spinning the wheel. So I then checked the right side, all was well except that there was some grinding and clunking. All four boots are either leaking or about to be so I decided to change both axles. It is going to kill my wallet but I can't let my ride have the shakes.
