Popping noise while braking

my 93 190E has started to make popping/snapping noises under braking, coming from the rear.

the car has an automatic transmission and when I am braking for a stop light, i begin to hear popping/snapping noises from the rear when I am under 15mph or so while in drive.

when I am in neutral and i stop, I hear no such popping/snapping noises.

brake pads and rotors are brand new and upgraded from stock to the E420 W124 brakes. anyone have any idea what this is?

I would look at half shafts. Park the car so it will not roll and put it in neutral. Then crawl under and see if your half shafts will wiggle. They should slide in and out a little but no wiggle is allowed.

I checked the half axles, they were fine.

problem was loose suspension links in the rear. I suppose while under braking with an auto tranny, the torque converter is applying a load, and the brakes are applying an opposite load at low speeds, so the loose link was able to move around on its own for a bit until the car completely stopped. I don't know how they came loose, but I retorqued them back to factory spec so hopefully this wont happen again, otherwise I might need loctite on them.

The thing I did notice though was that the EPC called for new torque specs on the newer suspension links for the w201/w124, so that might be the problem. does anyone know the new torque specs?
