wiring harness secret warranty
if anyone has specific information on how to get the dealers to perform the "goodwill service" or allow you to avail of the secret extended warranty on e series wiring harness please post your info. i would hope i am not SOL as my 93 300e 2.8 has the information below posted on alldata. one would think they would honor this. 800 mb says that for my vin there were no outstanding recalls although the safety recall service was not performed.
95-0223 Safety Recall - Wiring Harness Chafing/Shorting 95V031000: Wire Harness Protecter Installation i am trying to pursue this angle specially since it is a safety recall and my harness is definitely shorting. any help/info would be much appreciated. |
The dealership did mine on my 93 300E at N/C, but I had less than 100K on it. They should do the same for yours if your mileage hasn't hit that yet.
Insist on it. |
ANY dealer can "run" the serial number & see if there are any *open* recalls on your car. IF fact at dealer they are supposed to do that on all cars that come in for service!!
The recall you posted(95-0223) is for inside of the car on most 1994 cars, around the passenger floor support where the idle speed computer lives. This wiring problem isn't going away until ALL 8/92 thru 5/95 cars have had the harness replaced!!! |
Thanks MBDOC,
I just found that information on the public record at alldata.com for my year and model. I guess it's wrong info? I suppose you are right about this not going away but the problems will run undiagnosed until the harness is disturbed, which is exactly what happened in my case. The car ran fine until I had the first headache addressed, which involved moving the harness. It seems that there are a lot of 92-95 e-class owners on this forum so if we can formulate some kind of approach that would be useful to all concerned. My negotiating skills and BS are only a little above average and I would like to leverage whatever else anyone has used to get some relief from MB... |
BTW does anyone have email or snailmail address for the CEO of MB USA? regardless of the outcome, i'm thinking of collecting all the info on this forum about head gaskets and wiring harnesses, two big ticket repairs that apparently are known issues on '92 to '95 m104 engines and sending it in. why not escalate all the way to the top?

Wiring Harness Failures
FYI All MB auto's in those years I believe are having the same problem which magnifies the problem. Need to get all the Forums united on this issue. Might need to ID all users that have come forward.

MB has a documented warrantee policy.
They do extend goodwill. Buy 4-5 new cars from them, have them all serviced at the dealer being solicited, and have less than 100k or 10 years on them would be a good start. Interesting concept for the second, third, whatever owner of a 15 year old vehicle to expect warrantee coverage. Many manufacturers wouldn't even build replacement parts for a car that old. |

Acura does a great job of notifying me of any recalls and does them for free (provide you have under 100K miles). |

The MBUSA CEO is a doorknob, like Allen Paulson to the President. He has no power, he just stands there collecting his giant salary with his hands over his crotch as standard defensive posture. The two guys to send things to are Dr Dieter Zetsche, the CEO of Daimler-- I have met him ( I worked there and in Germany from 1976-2001). He is by training an engineer and unlike the US guys, has what the Germans call a sense of "social responsibility." If Prof Dr. Hubbert is still in charge of the Mercedes business unit and you send a copy to him, he's a quality fanatic. he may be retired now, but he would respond personally to some letters. The Americans have no power and no interest in you unless you are a celebrity or can make them look bad on TMZ.com, or otherwise affect their bonus. Go to the Germans and start your letter to Dieter with: Sehr geehrter Vorstandvorsitzender! which is a very formal title. They'll read the letter just because you did the courteous thing. And Dr Z reads and speaks English fluently. Leave a phone no, he just might call. |

This is a 8 year old post!!!
The actual dates are more Dependant on models than originally suspected. Some 1992 cars had issues & some early 1996 cars has engine wiring issues. The W201 chassis NEVER had those wiring issues NOR did any CIS-E fuel system car. MB isn't going to recall those cars. They didn't back in 1993 when we started seeing those problems & they won't now! |
