W124 300E Air Con

My aircon wont turn on. All fuses particularly no.8 are ok. Blower is working OK. Heated air comes from side vents. Appears as if a fuse is blown but I'm stuck. Today in melbourne was 100f. Please help I'm melting:confused:

Several different systems depending on the YEAR of the car!

What gas do you have? R12 or 134.

There is a place in Clayton that still does R12.

300E is an 1989 model. The AC unit was upgraded by MB dealer in Perth with new compressor etc 3 years ago (not R12)

Could be....

Klima relay
pushbutton control unit
slipping clutch
bad compressor speed sensor

You really need the factory manual, there is a separate book on A/C, with a very detailed problem solving section.

Is this Melbourne Florida or Australia? I'm not sure we'd have the same fusing/wiring on a RHD AU car, and the ACC was optional there also.

What is the name of the book? Where can I get it?

has to be australia since it was like 40F here in FL

It's Melbourne Australia and the current temp as I type this is 36 degrees C or around 97 degrees F.

The OP has some small problem as his car's A/C was converted to R134 in Perth while the car is now in Melbourne. The distance from Perth to Melbourne is comparable from California to Florida. Thus seeing that same repair centre is slightly difficult.

FWIW for the O.P., I have just had my W124 260e' s aircon serviced and refilled with gas in Clayton for AU$140.00.

Australian Design Rules require proper ventilation to the front windscreen and as such there would be no current OZ specced M.B.'s without A/C. There are subtle differences in the setups for the A/C.

Australian specced cars are also fitted with higher specced cooling systems than European cars.

check that the heat is not on because it will win in a fight with the cooling.check the diaphram of the solenoid in the heater valve[called mono valve].simple way to do first check is to use a pair of needle nose vise grips and clamp off the heater hose on the exhaust side and then run the a/c.if this car converted to 134 cooling not that good anyway and heater valve being open will kill it.
