just bought 1987 mb 190e 2.3
I have a 1987 mercedes benz 190e 2.3 16v which i got from a family friend, the cars acceleration seems funny, i thought these cars were supposed to be moderatly fast from what ive seen on youtube and such. While driving ill press the gas down all the way it will sound like its downshifting to a smaller gear but it like stutters, i dont even know how to describe it other then saying the acceleration of the car is quit slow, has trouble picking up speed. also the stereo was working and shutoff all of the sudden. Just the other day i started the car and turned the heat up to let it warm up, only thing is theres no heat! If anyone could help that would be great.

Could be the thermolator, have it checked by a qualified technician, may need adjusting.

did you check the sparkplugs? The heater will not get hot until the car is warmed up already.

By "today's standards", it is not a tremendously fast car...my 5-spd car only did 0-60 in about 7.8 seconds. The automatic will be a second or two slower. It WAS a fun car though. As for downshifting, if the auto trans feels like it isn't engaging the gear, or surging or hunting, it may be a trans problem. That said, some auto trans problems can be solved by a simple servicing- flush, fluid and filter. J.G. |
