We have a '93 300TE 4 Matic, infrequently the electric latching mechanism on the talkgate will not pull down and shut off. It will continually cycle. It will do this "clicking" for up to twenty clicks and then pull the tailgate down to the fully closed position. The tailgate will lock, with the regular locking mechanism when it is in this "cycling" mode, but it continues "clicking". During one instance I activated the dash switch for rear compartment lights and the cycling stopped. Any suggestions out there??? Thanks

That is a "complete" assembly. Guess you need to find a good used one.

don't know if it could be adjusted or anything... but it sure sounds like it's missing the "mark" so to speak...
it does this even with the hatch fully closed?

Yes, sometimes when the tailgate has been successfully "latched" the pull down mechanism will start to clatter. This, of course, means that it has released is not fully pulled down. Also, it has occurred one time when the car was locked. The pull down released although the tailgate was still locked to prevent opening.

I've looked inside the tailgate, but that was sometime ago, I'll take another look to try to identify the "unit" one reply referred to. I could not find any "adjustment", when it works it works fine. Somewhat like so many things on our MB's. Thanks for your help. srharvey
