Follow up on CEL

I have a 1995 S320, W140, Having a CEL, was able to get code via AutoZone.
Code posted P0400 which indicates a EGR valve problem. I need a little help finding the darn thing. I'm a little afraid of digging to much without a little information. I've tried searching the forum without to much luck. Again any info. would be greatly appreciated.

It's on the exhaust manifold on the passenger side, rear of the engine. But the problem is more likely to be the EGR pipe which has a tendancy to get clogged up. Try a search for "104 EGR pipe".

Thanks, great info.

Thanks, just the info about the pipe was very useful. I see it coming off the valve going around the back of the engine. It's hard to see on the drivers side but I was able to feel it going under the intake. Again thanks

EGR on a 1995 MB? That's incredible...that's like mid 70's technology...you sure it's an EGR?

then you must be running leaded gas in a non-catalytic car. The EGR was the primitave precursor for the catalytic convertor. I don't have EGR in my 1990 300TE, last EGR I had was in a 1975 Audi 100LS. Is this a North American version?

My '93 W201 has an EGR Valve.

yeah, the 1975 Audi 100 LS was an excellent car when it ran. Mine always ran great, engine wise. problem was the floor rusted out. People always mistaked my 100LS for a Mercedes from a distance, but up close would comment that the Audi looked better than a Mercedes. Sleeker but the same stance.....

Yeah, my wife loved the little car...when it ran;), no rust problems. People use to mistake ours for a BMW.:) Really didn't care for the front wheel drive.

Uhh....our 1997 Toyota has one....and it sooted/carboned up the whole intake/throttle to the point of it not idling (stalled out constantly). Had to disassemble the whole thing and clean the heck out of it. After that, no more issues. Most cars have EGR.....

EGR is still used today.

To clean it you have to take off both ends, and run a speedo cable or such through it. You should find some threads on this. The intake is hard to get but possible. It's held attached with two 10 mm bolts - the front one accessible from the top, the back one better from the bottom.
